This is how it all happened, we were going home and to say goodbye to the Boises'. I decided to ride Luke's little scooter bike down the driveway that is gravel. When I had gotten down I tried to stop myself before the metal gate. I turned the wheel sideways and I fell off. My knee didn't hurt much, but it stung a little, so I looked at it. At first I thought it was a dirt smudge so I kept walking then it hurt pretty bad. I looked at it again and it was a bad cut it was pretty deep and wide. I went up the hill and showed dad. He said it was in a strange place so it might need stitches. We got some cotton and put it on it. We got into the car and drove home. Mom looked at it and said it needed stitches. We went to the emergency wing and checked in. We waited for a long time then they called me in. Dad and I waited for even longer. Finally someone came in and put numbing shots around it. Next, a cleaner came in and said that she would spray water on it. I read the label and it said sodium chloride (saltwater). She asked me if I knew what it meant. I said yes because my Ms. Fout rarely uses the word "salt". She always says sodium. She asked me were I went to school and I told her St. Gilbert school in Grayslake, IL. She asked me because she wanted to sent her kids there. After that she sprayed saltwater on it when she was done cleaning, another, person came in. He looked at it and said it was ready to get stitched. I was all the way numb by then so he began. I asked after a long pause when he would start and dad said he was done with the first stitch! After he finished he went out and a Junior Paramedic came in he asked me a few questions then left. We got checked one more time then went home. I got right to sleep.

Sean,
ReplyDeleteI would know your knee anywhere.....especially now that it has an identifiable mark. Do I need to ask you about a helmet? Glad you are OK.....how is Luke's little scooter bike?
XXOO, Nana MO'S
Luke's scooter bike is without stitches!
DeleteSean,
ReplyDeleteI forgot to ask how many stitches......so how many.
XXOO
Four stitches
DeletePS. Sean, you and Uncle Kevin will have to compare knees. Question.....why did they clean your knee with normal saline and not sterile water? I'll look forward to your answer. XXOO
ReplyDeleteI don't know but as long as it worked it is ok with me!
ReplyDeleteAn on-the-road adventure. Hope the scar is not big but big enough for you to have another story to tell about your trip! Your cousin Billy has a scar on his forehead but the story behind it is not as interesting - he just ran into a corner when he was three.
ReplyDeleteWill the stitches just come out by themselves or do you need to go back to get them out. Glad the doctor who put in the stitches did such a smooth job that you did not know he had even started!
Love, AAB
The stitches will come out themselves
ReplyDeleteOh no! So glad you are okay Sean!! I'll bet you were super brave. Cool stitches!! Maybe stick to bikes your size from now on... With brakes!
ReplyDeleteDon't put pictures like that on the blog! At least without a warning.......I think I am feeling faint....
ReplyDeleteHope that doesn't affect your hiking on the rest of the trip!
Love Grandpa
Sean
ReplyDeleteI am glad you had it stitched. It will heal faster.
You do not need a doctor to take out the stitches. Aren't you tired of emergency room waiting.
What would have done if you were 100 miles from a hospital? Maybe u need to learn how to sew.
Is this the first time you tore you skin open? It looked very painful. Do u know why they wanted to keep it out of the pool? I can guess.
Were you told? If so please share the fact with me.
