I went ahead to the top without stopping and with nothing to eat or drink. Mom and dad told me to stop at Columbia Rock which had no sign. I blew past the rock and went to the top. I did not see the split for the end of our trail. I went for about a mile on that trail then turned around because I felt like I had gone too far. I went back the mile and a family found me and told me my dad was looking for me.
I stayed with them for a bit then dad found me. We started going back down I was tired and my legs were shaking. Dad gave me some water. I drank too much too fast and I threw it back up a minute later. We kept going down and I had some candy and a sandwich. I ate them and was fine. We got down to mom who was by Columbia rock. I ate some trail mix and we started down the trail. When we were almost down mom told me to eat a nut so I did. Right after that I threw up all of the candy and sandwich. We continued down and soon got to the sign.
We got to the shuttle bus stop and mom got me a coke to help me feel better. We got on and got back to our campsite. I laid down and mom gave me some medicine. We had dinner and quickly went to bed. I got to sleep really fast.
Oh my, Sean. A lesson well learned.....I am sure. I am glad your Dad found you. I bet he was worried

Glad you're ok. I bet you learned a bunch about your hike planning. It's always hard to know about the signage. Good thing you did turn around. I hope you're feeling better.
ReplyDeleteSometimes those lessons are learned the hard way! Glad to hear that all is well now. :) I read your five-paragraph essay before this post. I thought the essay seemed very wise. Now I know why!
ReplyDeletePete and I were canoeing in the middle of a lake in Canada once. Very suddenly, a huge storm blew in and we had a very hard time keeping our course and trying not to get sideways in the waves. Afterwards, we were very tired and hungry. We said heck to the trailmix and freeze-dried meals we had brought and we paddled to a hamburger joint and chowed down! Nature can wear you out!
