Trees trees and more trees!

Hi this is Grace we are in San Francisco today I woke up to a breakfast of cereal. Then we watched some videos. Then we went to Muir Woods. It was hard to find a place to park the car but we were very lucky that some one was coming out of the parking lot. We parked and went to the Visitor Center, got ranger books, and did them on the hike. The hike was fun!!!!!

This picture is for Nana MOS. It is a carpet of shamrocks.  Mom wants to know how her plant is doing?

It was quiet. It was fun doing the ranger book.

San Francisco

Hi, this is Sean😄 today I woke up and got dressed. We decided to go out to breakfast. We got in the car and drove to the diner. After we had breakfast we went on the cable cars to the bay.

Next, we went to see Sea Lions.
After sea lions we got hot dogs for lunch. When we were done with lunch we went on a boat tour under the Golden Gate Bridge and around Alcatraz. The water was really choppy so the boat rocked and rolled.  We got to the bridge we were really excited. Did you know the bridge is one and a quarter miles long? Also the bridge has enough cable on it to wrap around the world three times!

When we were done with the Golden Gate Bridge we went around  Alcatraz. Only five people escaped from Alcatraz island, but they are thought to be drowned. Alcatraz has only one jail as its equivalent in the USA. That equivalent is in Florence Colorado. Alcatraz was the last stop in the jail line.
Only the worst of the worst were here. When we got back to land we went and saw sourdough bread being made. After we bought some bread we went back on the cable car.
We got in our car and drove home. We had a quick dinner and went to bed. It had been a fun day.

Luke's bike

This is how it all happened, we were going home and to say goodbye to the Boises'. I decided to ride Luke's little scooter bike down the driveway that is gravel. When I had gotten down I tried to stop myself before the metal gate. I turned the wheel sideways and I fell off. My knee didn't hurt much, but it stung a little, so I looked at it. At first I thought it was a dirt smudge so I kept walking then it hurt pretty bad. I looked at it again and it was a bad cut it was pretty deep and wide. I went up the hill and showed dad. He said it was in a strange place so it might need stitches. We got some cotton and put it on it. We got into the car and drove home. Mom looked at it and said it needed stitches. We went to the emergency wing and checked in. We waited for a long time then they called me in. Dad and I waited for even longer. Finally someone came in and put numbing shots around it. Next, a cleaner came in and said that she would spray water on it. I read the label and it said sodium chloride (saltwater). She asked me if I knew what it meant. I said yes because my Ms. Fout rarely uses the word "salt".  She always says sodium. She asked me were I went to school and I told her St. Gilbert school in Grayslake, IL. She asked me because she wanted to sent her kids there. After that she sprayed saltwater on it when she was done cleaning, another, person came in. He looked at it and said it was ready to get stitched. I was all the way numb by then so he began. I asked after a long pause when he would start and dad said he was done with the first stitch! After he finished he went out and a Junior Paramedic came in he asked me a few questions then left. We got checked one more time then went home. I got right to sleep.

The super duper day.

Today was a lot of fun. When I woke up I had breakfast which was cereal.  Then Sean, Luke, and I built a super duper town with blocks.  Then we had lunch and went to Ms. Renee's house.  We had my own personal trail ride!!!! We went all around her 5 acres.  I got to trot on the horse, and I could walk and steer her on my own.  I could stop her and make her go and make her trot.

Then we had dinner and it was pizza.  I had some grape juice and a little bit of milk.  Then I pet the dog, and then we had a fun race with all the cars and two cars won.  Then it was time to go, and Sean was riding Luke's little scooter bike down the hill and he fell and cut his knee on a rock.  Sean will tell you that story.

Horse Feeding

The rapid river

Hi, this is Sean😃. Today we got up and had a breakfast of French Toast. We met up with Mrs. Renee to go on a hike short half mile hike called Emerald Pools.
We drove to the trailhead then got ready to go. We walked to the end and there was the white water torrent other wise known as Emerald Pools. This supposedly calm pool in the Yuba River was rushing with water. We had lunch here then climbed some rocks.
Dad and Katie went back to the car while the others went on another trail. We walked for some time then it started to barely sprinkle. The trail was really cool, but we had to go back. We went back and got in the car to drive to Mrs. Renee's house. When we got there we went to feed the horses weeds they loved it. After that Grace and I went into a huge bramble. It was awesome!  It was fun, but we had to go home. We got into the car and drove home we watched a video then had a dinner of lasagna then went to bed. It was a fun day.

The rodeo

Hi, this is Katie. Today we went on a little hike. We drove to the trailhead then got out on a beautiful sunny day. We started on the trail it went right by the Yuba River. We hiked for some time until we came to a seven way split. There was a small creek there and we wanted to stop, but there were three billion mosquitos. We went that way until we came to a good stopping place. It was a great view! We started going down the trail. Sean saw a hummingbird, we watched it then kept going down the trail. When we got back down we drove home for lunch.

After lunch and a nap we went to the RODEO! In the beginning kids rode sheep, the name was mutton busting it was hilarious, then somebody parachuted!
After that there were teams, what the teams did was, one person had a rope with a steer on it he had to hold it while the other person tried to tie a ribbon to the steers tail! Beginning the rodeo there was bucking broncos! Second, they drove around a wagon!
Afterwords there was team roping. One person would rope the head of the steer, one person the back legs! Then there was calf roping. A cowboy would rope the head of the calf, jump of the horse flip the calf over, and tie at least three legs together! The calf had to stay tied for six seconds! Next, people tried to ride bulls! The bulls must have thought, you might have roped my little brother, but I'm going to buck you of, and you are going to land HARD! Only one person stayed on for the eight seconds.
Finally, there was barrel racing. The horse, (with a cowGIRL on his back) would run a tight circle around 3 barrels with out knocking them over! The one who did it the fastest won! Lastly, they put a jump ramp outand motorcycles did tricks!

Happy birthday!!!

Hi this day is my birthday can you believe it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Today we went to a diner I had a waffle with whipped cream and strawberries I finished that in about two seconds!!!!! Then I had two pieces of toast  and some pancake, and then I was full.  It was pouring rain so we had to make a run for it.

First I did some rocket math and then I made a fort with Luke and I read in it for a long time.  And then I watched a movie about a dog that ran away that was abandoned.

Then we baked a cake.  We had no mixer so we had to use our hands.
The batter felt really squishy and it was fun to play with while I was mixing it.
I had fun making the cake.  And then we had dinner and sang Happy Birthday.
I got to sweep because I love to sweep., and it was my birthday.  It was a great birthday!!!!!!!  I am 7 years old.  I still can't believe it!!!

Dear Chloe, thanks for the video of you singing Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!  Are you having fun I hope you are!

Empire Mine

Hi, this is Sean😀.  We are still in Grass Valley.  Today after a breakfast of oatmeal I went to allergy shots.  After allergy shots mom and I went to the store and got a lot of food.  We went home and had lunch and decided to go to Empire Mines.  Empire Mines is a gold mine with multiple mines.  We walked to the "cottage" Mr. Bourn's manor. It was called a cottage because some of his houses were castles in Ireland. We saw minnows, frogs, fish and a huge turtle.  There was a gold fish and a white gold fish.  I don't know how a gold fish can be 'white' but this one was white.
This was the cottage.  Mighty big for a cottage.
Then there was a gold mine tour.  The gold mine was 5000 ft deep through granite, quartz, pyrite, and GOLD.  Pyrite is fools gold.  Today gold is $1295 per ounce.  When the mine operated In the 1940's gold was $35 an ounce.  To extract the gold you pulverized the rock and pour the powder onto a copper table with Mercury on it.  The murcery and gold would form a silly puddy substance with the gold. Then workers would take the puddy and separate out the gold making bars.  30% of the gold was still on the copper table so they took the mixture and added cyniade to extract it.   They melted the gold in a big furnace making bars.  The bars weighed 69 pounds, as heavy as me.  The mine opened during the gold rush in 1849.  The mine has over 376 miles of tunnels.  After we saw how the gold was extracted we went into the actuall gold mine.
The mine stayed at the same temperature, 64 deg.  Miners has really hard jobs, in England you could be 10 and work in a mine.

To get down into the deep mine the workers would sit on a "man skiff" shown above. 12 workers fit on one man skiff.  When they started using electricity in the mine they took mules into the mine.  To get the mules in they covered them with a tarp and tied them down on the man skiff.  The mules never left the mine and all their food was brought to them and all their "waste" was brought out.  The mine grounds was like a small town.  I would not want to be a miner you worked 10 hour shifts but be in the mine for 12 hours.  I had fun at and in the mine.
