March 12, 2016.

Hi, this is Katie. These photos are of our campsite. We drove into the campsite at night, so I took the pictures in the morning.

Today we got the junior ranger badges from Zion National Park, 'cause  we listened to a ranger program on how Zion was formed. He (the ranger)  told us the 4 basic steps. 1. Sedemtation  2. Lithification 3.Uplift 4. Erosion. ( I have a challenge for you define Sedemtation, and Lithification.(With out looking it up!):)) Then we drove to St.George and went to church. Afterwords, we drove toTwisted Noodle and had dinner there. I was not hungry but I managed to eat dessert! Last, we drove to the campsite and went to sleep.

  1. Did you eat twisted noodles at Twisted Noodle???
I can define Sedimentation, but I have to look up Lithification. You'll have to see if you can explain them to me!
Keep having fun and we'll see you in San Diego later this week!
    Love, Grandma T.

  2. Hi Katie,

This is Stephanie, and I have been enjoying hearing about your incredible journey and learning adventures so far! As for your challenge, I also think I know the definition of "sedimentation" but I also would have to research the definition of "lithification". Those are hard words to define, even known as "terms of art" in the field of geology, I suspect! I believe lithi- might come from the Greek word lithos- which means rock, so this would make sense knowing you are surrounded by incredible rock formations everywhere! But, that's all I know, and I think I will wait for you to tell your Grandpa Kevin what the word means and then he can share it with me, as a surprise!

Thank you for all of your great blog posts as well as your excellent photographs! They really give us a good idea of what it must be like to experience all of the interesting and beautiful places you are visiting on your road trip.

I also bet you are also getting excited to see your family in San Diego coming up!

    Love,
    Steph

p.s. I know you are a good horsewoman. What do you think it would be like to ride your horse through the canyons as people have done in the past? Do people still ride horses there, or do they only ride mules or donkeys, which are supposed to be more sure-footed, I wonder?

  3. Katherine,
I hope I am not to late for your word challenge. As for "sedimentation " I think I have an idea. Because I live near the Ohio River and I have often visited New Orleans and looked at the Mississippi River. Does "sedimentation" have something to do with fluid depositing material? I know in my job I used the word as a description. Now "lithification " is a different story and I
must confess I wanted to look it up......but I didn't. I will wait for you to tell me what it means.
