From top to bottom: Landscape Arch, Pine Tree Arch, a beautiful view of the desert, Double O Arch, us going up a giant fin out to of rock, and the Primitive Trail. Below: an unnamed arch that I found.
We woke up in the morning and the first word we heard was 'hiking.' We had breakfast and got our backpacks ready. Mom, Grace, and Luke went on a different easier hike.
We drove the strenuous point two miles to the trailhead and the second we saw the trail we knew it was going to be fun.
First, we took a short walk to Landscape Arch, it was amazing! It was huge three-hundred-sixty-one feet long. We climbed up huge red rock cliffs and hiked to Navajo Arch.It was my favorite. We heard a crow barking like a dog. We climbed up a really steep cliff and looked around , you could see for around three hundred miles all the way to the Rocky Mountains. We hiked back to Partician Arch, it was one arch separated by a pillar.
We climbed up some red rock and could see for miles. We went back to the trail and hiked some more. The trail was really fun, but hard too. We hiked all the way to Double O Arch. It was two arches one on top of each other. We had lunch there then we were on our way... On the primitive, hard, trail.
We hiked to a giant red rock fin and climbed to the end of it, and got back on the trail. We went back on the trail and hiked a long way. We stopped for a rest and had a snack took a few pictures and kept going.
We hiked back to Landscape Arch and took another two trails. They were Tunnel Arch and Pine Tree Arch. By Tunnel Arch there was a chimney like arch we called Santa Claus Arch. Pine Tree Arch was really big, and we got some pictures. We went back to the car and went home.
We had hiked seven miles! We drove back and had a great dinner then went to bed. It was a great day!
Very cool pictures Sean and good write up. Did you name the arch you found? Did you and your Dad talk about the equation that gives you how far out you can see the the horizon? It may be a bit early to take a look at geometry but you should look it up if you haven't yet. What do you think changes how far you can see?
ReplyDeleteYou all have an exciting adventure ahead of you. Say hi to the family for me.
Sean, I bet you can really star gaze out there. No, city lights to get in your way. I hope you are keeping up with your moon log too. XXOO, Nana MO'S
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures, Sean! Did you take all of them? It is certainly "big sky" country! And beautiful.....have you ever seen red rock and dirt like that before? I'll bet you all slept well that night! How did your dad do on the hike.....did he hold up okay? And was your mom jealous?
ReplyDeleteKeep those pictures and commentary going - we love it....
Love, Grandpa T.
Oops--I just posted my comment and it is under Grace's entry. You can find it . . .

Hi Sean - I just discovered your blog - nice job with the pictures and writing! With all of those nice red rocks around, it looks like you need some ropes to do some climbing! Tell your Mom and Dad they can drive the RV up to Portland and have all of my climbing gear!!
